TSB in top ten of best big UK companies to work for

24th February 2017

TSB is delighted to be recognised in the top ten of the UK’s best big companies to work for by the Sunday Times.  According to the newspaper’s 2017 Best Big Companies to Work For list, TSB ranks number nine and is the best bank to work for in the UK.

When we launched TSB in 2013, we set out to build a different kind of bank.  We built TSB to bring more competition to UK banking and ultimately make banking better for all UK consumers.  We do this by working in partnership with the customers and business in the local communities we’re a part of, rather than the other way around.

As part of this, we’ve also created a different kind of bank to work in.  We were the first bank to scrap sales incentives for any of our employees.  We made all our employees, now over 8,200, Partners in the business and removed all sales incentives and bonuses.

In addition, all TSB Partners, from our most junior new recruit to CEO, share in the TSB Award – a form of annual profit share worth 10% of salary and awarded purely on delivering great service to our customers.

Paul Pester, Chief Executive Officer at TSB, says: “I’m delighted that TSB has been named in the top ten of Britain’s best big companies to work for by the Sunday Times, and is the best bank to work for in the UK.

“Three years ago we set out to build a different kind of bank, working in partnership to serve the local communities we’re a part of.  And I’m delighted to say that our approach seems to be working.  We’ve already been voted Britain’s most recommended high street bank, and now as one of the UK’s best big companies to work for we’re showing that a bank focused on serving local communities really can thrive.

“Everyone at TSB is extremely proud of this recognition and of course we’ll continue to do our bit to make banking better for all UK consumers – reinforcing why TSB is different from other banks, and a great place to work.”

Notes to editors

TSB was built to bring more competition to British banking - to be a real challenger to the big banks and to deliver the kind of banking the people of Britain want. TSB only serves local customers and local businesses, to help fuel local economies, because communities thriving across Britain is a good thing for all of us.

We have a simple, straightforward and transparent banking model and make clear on our website how we operate and make money. We offer the products and services people tell us they want, with none of the funny stuff people normally associate with traditional banks.

Our five million customers, innovative mobile and digital banking, nationwide network of branches and 8,200 Partners mean we are big enough to make a difference, but small enough to be an agile challenger to the entire market.

About the Sunday Times Best Big Companies Awards 2017

This is the first year that TSB has taken part in the survey, which uses anonymous questionnaires to assess eight key areas that contribute to how people feel about their job and where they work. TSB achieved two stars which means partners working for the Bank rated it as outstanding in all of the areas assessed.

The eight areas covered by the Best Companies survey include; how employees feel about the overall leadership and company values; the level of engagement employees feel about their job and the organisation; employees feelings about their colleagues and how well they work together; and the extent to which they feel their employer has a positive impact on society.  The survey also assesses how they feel about and communicate with their manager; training and future prospects; pay and benefits; and work/life balance.
