Edwina Brocklesby Wins TSB Community Partner Award at Pride of Sport 2019

5th December 2019

TSB award recognises the incredible work of Edwina Brocklesby

Edwina Brocklesby has won TSB’s Community Partner Award at this year’s Pride of Sport awards. At the age of 74, Edwina, has become the oldest British woman to complete an Ironman triathlon, earning the nickname Iron Gran.

Before her 50th birthday, Edwina had never done much exercise and did not consider herself to be sporty. This all changed when she turned 50, and she entered her first half marathon. Following the death of her husband of 30 years to cancer, she pushed herself to run a marathon.

Edwina Brocklesby, TSB Community Partner Award winner, says: I am absolutely thrilled that I am a winner of the TSB Community Partner Award, it means a lot to me. I think it's vital to do what you can to help your community, and for me that is encouraging people to stay fit and active.

Debbie Crosbie, TSB's Chief Executive Officer, said: At TSB, we're very proud of our partnership with Pride of Sport. The Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate incredible people who harness the power of sport in their local communities to achieve extraordinary things.

“Many congratulations to Edwina Brocklesby, TSB’s Community Partner Award winner, who has been inspirational in showing us all that it’s never too late to achieve anything if you put your mind to it!”.

In 2013, Edwina founded Silverfit, a charity that promotes lifelong fitness. It started by running events in London’s parks but has since grown organically to 1,000 members at 14 venues across eight boroughs. Silverfit offers a range of activities to the over-45s including Nordic walking, tai chi, Pilates and cheerleading.

Pride of Sport celebrates those who have used sport to make a positive different to people and the communities they are a part of, up and down the country. It represents Britain’s local sporting heroes; people from the grassroots of sport, who have achieved something extraordinary for themselves, their friends and families, and for their communities.

TSB has also partnered with Pride of Britain1 who, like Pride of Sport, help and celebrate local people and communities. And, instead of having a single national charity of the year, TSB empowers its branches to choose a local independent cause that matters to them to support with fundraising and volunteering.
