TSB appoints César González-Bueno as Non-Executive Director

TSB today announced the appointment of César González-Bueno, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of ING Bank Spain & Portugal, to the TSB Board as Non-Executive Director.

TSB’s Chairman, Richard Meddings said: “César brings invaluable market knowledge and expertise across financial services, and we look forward to welcoming him to the TSB Board.”

César González-Bueno said: “I’m looking forward to joining the TSB Board and helping the business achieve its strategic objectives in the coming years.”

Biography of César González-Bueno

César González-Bueno has over 35 years financial services experience. He is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Board of ING Bank Spain and Portugal, after serving as CEO during the last three years. Among his achievements have been the successful launch of ING Direct Spain 22 years ago, Spain’s leading direct bank today. Prior to this, César held a number of executive roles including acting as CEO of Gulf Bank of Kuwait from 2013 to 2016 and as CEO of Novagalicia Banco from 2011 to 2013. At Novagalicia, César led a large and complex restructuring process under the supervision of the EU, the IMF and the ECB. He was also responsible for launching and selling off its mostly direct bank, EVO Banco.

Prior to this, César was CEO of ING Direct Spain from 1998, where he led the bank’s successful growth over 13 years. During this period, he was appointed to the Global Management Team of ING DIRECT NV, adding the businesses of the UK, Italy and France to his responsibilities. In 2009 César was promoted to ING Bank’s Head of Europe covering both the retail and wholesale businesses, and became a member of its Bank Management Team, with responsibility over 17 countries.

César began his career as a financial analyst at Citibank and at Asesores Bursátiles (currently Morgan Stanley) and later at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and at McKinsey & Company. He also worked for Argentaria (currently BBVA) as Director of Alternative Channels, where he was responsible for payment systems, telephone services and development of new channels.

César holds a double degree in Law and Business Administration from ICADE (Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Madrid, Spain) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Yale University (U.S.A).
