The majority of Brits (54%) made a domestic break their main holiday this year – as over two thirds (67%) are now more interested in a UK holiday – with affordability the biggest factor.
TSB’s Summer Spend report analysed more than 526 million TSB debit card transactions, alongside polling of 2,000 adults via Censuswide to reveal the summer spend and holiday habits of Brits.
Overall, summer spend remained flat with a marginal increase2 on last year – and this is considerably lower than the Consumer Price Index increase of 3.7%. But Brits splashed out on pubs, amusement parks, and concerts as they prioritised summer fun.
TSB customer data revealed the following trends comparing June-August 2024 with the same period in 2025:
- Amusement parks saw a 10% increase in spend
- Spending in pubs increased by 5% – even beating the Euro 2024 effect of last summer
- And Brits splashed out on concerts and entertainers; with a 13% increase in spending
- People continued to enjoy eating out – with restaurants marginally up, by 1%
- However, hotels saw a 6% reduction, as did camping grounds (-5%). Although, camping grounds saw a 2% increase in the volume of transactions.

Boost to British holiday market
Censuswide's poll for TSB found increased appetite for British holidays – with over two-thirds (67%)3 of Brits saying they are now more interested in taking a domestic summer holiday than in previous years.
Over half (54%) said their UK break was their main holiday – and over two-thirds (68%)4 said they are likely to take a domestic break next year.
Almost half (46%) said their increased interest was down to affordability. Over two-fifths (44%) said it was because holidaying domestically was less stressful. Two-fifths (40%) said it was due to Britain experiencing warmer weather in recent years.
Comparing cost savings, TSB found the average holidaymaker spent £212 getting to their holiday destination in the UK, compared to £504 abroad – meaning those holidaying domestically saved £292 on average.
Surina Somal, Everyday Banking Director, TSB, said:
“Although overall spend was flat – Brits prioritised fun this summer with amusement parks, pubs and concerts all seeing a spending boost.
“With over two thirds of households now more interested in a British holiday than previous years – with affordability the main driver - it could lead to a positive boost to the summertime economy next year.”
