Gambling can mean different things to different people. Whether you play the weekly lottery, buy a scratch card every now and then, or put a weekly bet on your favourite football team.

But how will you know when gambling is becoming a problem?

A few ways you can help yourself manage your gambling

Self-exclusion

You can exclude yourself from multiple gambling websites through GAMSTOP: gamstop.co.uk. To exclude yourself from multiple betting shops you can use the Multiple Operator Self Exclusion Scheme at self-exclusion.co.uk. Software Blocks

Through TalkBanStop. - GamCare you can access a free blocking software licence from Gamban. This allows you to block access to gambling apps and websites on up to 15 devices like your mobile, tablet and laptop.

Other Support

Mental health and gambling charities can support you in managing a gambling problem. We know opening up to loved ones about gambling can be difficult, and these charities offer great advice and support to help you through these situations.

If you are 18 or over and have a TSB debit card, you can apply a gambling block by tapping ‘Manage Cards’ in the TSB Mobile Banking App.

Then follow these steps:

  1. Access 'Manage Cards' by tapping the card icon next to your account in the app.
  2. Select the card that you’d like to apply the gambling block to. The option is unavailable for credit cards and certain account types.
  3. Click on ‘Gambling block’, move the toggle button to ‘On’ and the block takes effect straight away. If you then turn it off, you’ll need to wait 48 hours to make gambling payments again.
  4. When the gambling block is on, most payments and transactions related to gambling will be restricted on your card.
  5. You can remove your gambling block on the same screen, but you’ll need to wait 48 hours to make gambling payments again."

TSB’s Gambling Blocks FAQs

 

Yes it does apply to Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.

We’ll block most transactions attempted from UK gambling merchants on your debit card. Such as gambling or premium-rate websites and gambling phone lines.

  • Gambling subscriptions that are paid on direct debit 
  • Faster payments and bank transfers
  • Lottery tickets may be blocked. This depends on how they are bought. If bought as part of a wider supermarket purchase they will unlikely be blocked.
  • Non UK Gambling sites/platform
  • Crypto currency

From 14 April 2020, the Gambling Commission put measures in place to stop the use of credit cards for gambling and betting in UK establishments and on UK gambling sites so a block is not required for your credit card.

You can remove the block within the mobile app whenever you wish, but you will have to  wait 48 hours before you’re able to make gambling payments again.

No, your credit rating will not be affected by having a card block switched on.

If you report your card lost or stolen, your card block remains when a new card is sent to you. If your card expires naturally with the block on, this will remain on the new card sent to you.
