Any questions?

Anyone who has control or influence on the business will need to provide identification. This would include key people in your business such as:

  • Directors
  • Sole traders
  • Partners or members if you’re a Limited Liability Partnership or General Partnership
  • Trustees
  • Shareholders with 25% or more shareholding in the business
  • Significant influencers, for example, someone who has control over the business’ finances and bank account activity, such as a Finance Director or controller
  • Signatories only, these are people who you want to give access to your bank account

To meet legal and regulatory requirements, we need proof of identity and address for certain key business people. If you make changes, we will need to identify any new signatories or new key business people.

When applying for a business account online, we may be required to verify your identity. This can be done in two easy steps;

Step 1

As lead applicant you’ll be identified as part of the application process. You’ll be asked to take a picture of your ID document (driving licence, passport or an identity card) and a picture of yourself. We’ll use the pictures to confirm your identity as quickly as we can. It can take up to three-working days. As soon as we have finished our checks, we’ll contact you.

We use Experian to carry out our identity checks. You can find out more about Experian Identity Evaluation by using the contact form on their website.

Step 2

Any additional applicants will be sent a link to complete the identification process. They’ll be asked to provide a take a picture of their ID document, driving licence, passport or an identity card and a picture of themselves. We’ll use the pictures to confirm their identity as quickly as we can. It can take up to three-working days. As soon as we have finished our checks, we’ll contact you.

There are times when we may need to verify your identity and address in branch. If this happens, please bring two official documents with you – one for proof of identity and one for proof of address. We accept certain documents printed from your online accounts, e.g. utility bills for address verification, as long as one of the following has been used as identification: UK/Irish passport, UK full driving licence, HMRC tax notification (notice of coding or annual statement only and must be original documents sent by post).

Unfortunately, we’re not able to accept one document as proof of both your identity and address, e.g. photocard driving licence showing name and address.

To open your account, we may need to verify your identity and some details about your business. To support you in applying for a TSB business account, you can find a guide to what we need at UK Finance, the UK’s leading trade association for financial services.
