Christmas shopping countdown 2015

Looking for your money to stretch further this Christmas? You don't have to wait for the traditional Boxing Day sales to do your shopping. We've picked out some of the best shopping days to snap up those bargains.

27 November - Black Friday

Black Friday shopping started in the USA. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, retailers drop prices for one day only and the trend arrived in the UK a few years ago.

30 November - Cyber Monday

Just a few days after Black Friday, there's Cyber Monday which is the first Monday after pay day for many of us. Log on for discounts at many online retailers.

14 December - Manic Monday

The second Monday in December is called 'Manic Monday'. Shoppers are leaving buying their purchases to the last minute because of better delivery deadlines and shops offering click-and-collect. The good news is there are often some deals to be had - online retailers know that it's a good time to tempt you in.

19 December - Panic Saturday

After the chaos of Black Friday and Manic Monday there's a scramble on the Saturday before Christmas for last-minute gifts, which has been dubbed 'Panic Saturday'. In the past, sales began on Boxing Day but over time retailers are slashing prices on popular gifts, including fragrances and beauty products, in the run-up to the big day.

24 December - Christmas Eve

Left all your shopping until the last minute? This is your final chance to buy forgotten gifts. It's time for the so called 'man dash' where men all over the country rush to the shops in a panic. And many shops will have already started their big sale by this point.

25 December - Christmas Day

Merry Clickmas! Shopping on Christmas Day is now as much of a tradition as having turkey with all the trimmings.  It beats watching Christmas repeats. There is a rise in Christmas Day spending, particularly because not everyone will log on and you can bag the best deals before Boxing Day. Plus after receiving gifts like Kindles and iPads, we like putting them to good use by downloading music, books and films.

26 December - Boxing Day

The Boxing Day sales have traditionally been the day when we splash our Christmas cash. Long queues form in the early hours of the morning for some stores, despite sales now starting before Christmas.
