We're aware of an increase in the use of a scam in the UK that uses fraudulent/hacked emails to trick victims into sending money to fraudsters. The emails (which usually look very convincing) appear to be from someone reputable and trusted (e.g. a solicitor, charity or holiday home owner) ask the customer to change their banking or invoice details. Having done this, the victim sends their money, not realising they have sent the money to a criminal. They only discover the fraud when they don't get anything in return, or the legitimate company contacts them to request payment.

Please be aware of unexpected emails, particularly those asking you to change banking/payment details. Always confirm the change with the person or company you've been dealing with. Don't use the contact details from the email, use details you already have or look them up again. Always confirm a request to change the way you send money, say from a cheque to a direct payment, and check your money has arrived safely too. If you think you've been a victim of fraud, please call us straight away. We'll take immediate steps to secure your account and prevent fraudulent transactions. We'll investigate any transactions you're concerned about. And if you're entitled to your money back, we'll return it to your account. If you receive a suspicious email about your TSB accounts, please copy the message in to an email and forward to [email protected]
