Gareth, the local bank manager from Banbury is a restless, energetic character, who can barely keep still for five minutes in order to let us interview him!
His tireless fund-raising and championing of his branch’s Local Charity Partner, The Katharine House Hospice, earned him four separate nominations in recognition of his work – a fact that genuinely bowls him over.
Katharine House was set up by Neil Gadsby 31 years ago in memory of his daughter, Katharine, who passed away from cancer aged just 20. Neil and his friends sought to honour her name by creating a place that helped people with final-stage illnesses through their later life.
He is obviously dedicated to the cause, and cites Neil Gadsby as the inspirational figure in his life: “it’s really a remarkable achievement”.
But Katharine House forms just one part of Gareth’s volunteering. He is a frequent visitor to schools, where he helps educate children about budgeting and banking.
“It’s just something I do, but it’s great that the bank encourages me,” Gareth told us. “There’s nothing more inspirational than standing in front of 170 kids and educating them and seeing their responses afterwards. The feedback is extraordinary.”
We will be posting interviews, news, photos and videos on all of our social media channels before, during and after the awards.
