Up to 40 school and college leavers are set to join TSB in November 2014 as part of the Bank's new Apprenticeship scheme. The new recruits - the first apprentices to be hired by TSB since it launched on high streets across Britain last year - will follow a specially designed 12-month intensive, on-the-job training programme leading to an NVQ Level 3 in Providing Financial Services.
TSB's Apprentices will be based in seven locations across Britain
in a customer operations role or within one of the Bank's 631 branches. They will follow a tailored programme, giving them the chance to learn from TSB's existing Partners whilst having the opportunity to develop their skills and acquire new ones.
Rachel Lock, HR Director at TSB, says: "I'm delighted to welcome our new apprentices to TSB. In order to be selected for the programme they had to prove that they are both dedicated and passionate about providing great customer service, and it was fantastic to see how this struck a chord with our new recruits. I have no doubt that the training we have developed for them will help them to flourish in the future."
"As someone who began my career straight from school, I understand that university isn't for everyone and indeed, isn't even necessary for every job. Having a tailored approach for school and college leavers is the right thing to do for both TSB and young jobseekers."
TSB Apprentice, Lloyd Bartlett, says: "I'm thrilled to be given this opportunity as I start my career. It's fantastic to have the chance to get such great on-the-job learning leading to a recognised qualification.
"However, it's not just the training that attracted me to TSB. I'm excited to work for a company which offers customers a different sort of banking. TSB focuses on one thing - giving customers and local business the products and services they need - that's what local banking is all about and and I'm excited to be a part it."
Commenting on TSB's new Apprenticeship scheme, Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, says: "Good quality apprenticeships are key to building a stronger economy, and a perfect first step on the career ladder for young people, spreading opportunities to create a fairer society. Schemes like TSB's help create a highly skilled and motivated workforce, bring fresh talent to business, and reward ambitious young people with a fascinating career.
"Around half a million people a year take the chance to learn whilst they work, allowing employers to train up a workforce and compete internationally."
Notes to editors
Apprentices on the course will complete course work and evidence through an online portal and will be given one day's study leave to work on their qualification each month.
