Consent to Let

If you want to apply for consent to let your home, you’ll need to complete the consent the let form below and we will ask you a few questions to check that you are eligible.

If you want to let your home permanently, then a Buy-to-Let mortgage may be a more suitable for your needs. To talk to us about this, please call 0800 056 1088 between 8am - 8pm Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays), and 9am - 2pm on Saturdays.

Before you apply

  • You’ll need a form of photo ID, such as a passport or driving license.
  • If you’re Armed Forces or have Tied Accommodation, you’ll need proof of employment.
  • If you bought your home through a scheme, such as Help to Buy or Shared Ownership, then you’ll need confirmation from the scheme provider. We may also talk to them to assist with approval for letting the property.
  • If you’ve changed your name but haven’t let us know yet, then please provide proof of your new name before applying. You can see what we’ll accept as proof of name change in our Help and Support pages by searching for ‘change name’.

Other things you should know

  • You cannot usually take additional borrowing or change the mortgage rate you’re on whilst you are letting your home. This does not apply to Armed Forces personnel or if you have Tied Accommodation.
  • If we give you our permission this will usually be for 18 months at a time and up to a maximum of 2 times. You will need to reapply if you want to let the property again.
  •  If you wish to let the property after the second time consent to let has been granted, you may need to speak with a Mortgage Expert to consider transferring the property to a Buy to Let property.
  •  All renewals are subject to the terms and conditions at the time of application and a fee may be charged.
  • You should make sure that you have appropriate insurance in place whilst your home is being let – e.g. Landlord’s insurance.
  •  If you let your home without our permission you will be in breach of your mortgage conditions.
  •  If there are more than 2 people or if there is a Guarantor on the mortgage please call us on 0345 835 3381 between 8:00am-8:00pm Monday-Friday and Saturday 9:00am-2:00pm (excluding bank holidays).
